I wanted something with just a corkscrew and a bottlecap opener (not even a knife), so I bought this. But this thing is worthless. It feels plasticy and toy-like, it doesn't feel sturdy. The bottlecap opener is so much thinner than on my other S.A.K.s and it has a weird shape. It's not satisfying to use. Why isn't it just the normal bottlecap opener? The corkscrew is the same as my other knives. But because this knife is so very small, you have nothing to lever the knife onto. It is harder and uncomfortable to use to open a wine bottle. Overall, this knife is NOT suited for the job it was designed for (supposedly a waiter's knife). I regret buying this. I am very happy with my Camper and Hercules, but this one is going in the trash...

It's a toy.

I added a pin and a mini screwdriver. This is fantastic value for money and has the best tool-to-layer ratio of any Victorinox knife.

A Top quality knife that I have bought many times in the last 15 years, as they are the best knife you can buy.  A when I give them out to Friends , their eyes ligt up !   I would never consider any buying any knife other than  Victorinox.

I have carried my Waiter everyday for nearly 15 years and, from a feature perspective, it truly has everything you need and nothing you don't. The only two things I think would make this *the* perfect knife would be a locking blade and a clip. Other than that, this is a supremely useful and unobtrusive knife that I highly recommend.

Service et produit Parfait

In the US there's an upscale restaurant known for their Filet Mignon's. I frequent this restaurant, usually for lunch. On occasion, I take my family there for dinner. It just so happened during our last visit to this restaurant, my wife ordered a bottle of chardonnay to complement our steak. When the waiter brought the wine to our table, he took out his Waiter from his apron. I just happened to have my Waiter in my coat pocket. As he started to use his Waiter, my son quipped, "Dad, you have that knife, too!" So I showed the waiter my Waiter, and he compared the two. Of course they were identical, but his had slightly more use than mine. He commented on how functional his SAK is for his work duties, and I mentioned how convenient my Waiter is for our occasional family picnics. My waiter and I shared a moment of brotherhood that was made possible by our Waiter's. As it turns out, it really is a small world. Thank you, Victorinox, for another great SAK I recently added to my collection.

An interesting conversation with my Waiter

When I was 12, my father gifted me Victorinox Bartender. Since that time it is always in my pocket. We travel around the world or go to the country for a few hours, drink wine with friends and family, or fix small things around the car, home, and office, being involved in the street fight or cut the apple for my son. We are always together.
Thank you for the quality and for the 25 years-long story.

The SAK of choice for the minimalist who still needs a knife blade longer than the one offered on the small-size 58mm models. Also consider the 2-layer Compact model, which adds scissors, a ballpoint pen, a mini screwdriver, and a multipurpose hook with a nail file on it. Alternatively, consider getting a mini screwdriver and adding it to your waiter model. The bottle opener works well as a flat-head screwdriver or for light-duty prying. Even if you don't use the corkscrew to open wine bottles, it is still useful as a way of storing a mini-screwdriver or for loosening knots and other tasks if you are creative. The major trade-offs that one makes on a model like this are the lack of tools like scissors and also having relatively few screwdriver capabilities. I feel that offering a Philips screwdriver version in place of the corkscrew of this model could be worthwhile (fun fact: in some cases the tweezers can be used to turn eyeglass screws in a pinch on models without the mini screwdriver).

Why Bantam when you can Waiter?

Best Urban EDC that Victorinox has now.
Good but not Excellent.
Why?
All that you need for EDC urban knife today - knife(large blade), bottle+can openers, corkscrew, flat/phillips screwdriver, medium size and light weight - that is all you really need!
1) "-" blade is too small //this knife is not medium size, you can't find the same 91 or 93 mm, don't know why;
2) "-" no phillips screwdriver(needs often);
3) "+" has bottle/can openers;
4) "+" has corkscrew;
5) "+" extremely light.

May be you need also a good scissors, to cut the nails sometimes(I need), but the knife-scissors from Victorinox not good for nails - only for thick carton unfortunately(how ofter do you cut thick carton? - I never for the last years).
So, it's the only model of urban EDC knife among wide range Victorinox knifes.

P.S: It is an honest review, I have a few Victorinox knifes and all could be much better. So, I think that Victorinox product managers just don't use Victorinox knifes by themselves...

All what you need (almost)

This knife is really good if you want a lightweight, small and low profile knife but also want a wide enough range of tools.

Good small low profile knife

When my daughter turned 12 I bought her this one. It's a great starter or a great knife to have you you don't think you need a bigger knife. I believe that children shouldn't be taught that fixing things is an arcane thing for adults and I hope she'll always carry a SAK or equivalent. It's a great knife to get her in the habit.

Great starter knife.

I got this Waiter Victorinox for my Dad who is a fairly academic, not so practical doctor of medicine. He is a minimalist and always complains about pocket knives being "to bulky". Well, turns out he loved this one. I added the mini-screwdriver to the corkscrew (since he has glases). Please note that this is an 84mm model slightly smaller, than the original Cellidor modells. This knife is also perfect for the small medical/survivalkit. The red scales means that it is easy to find in snow, bush or even under water. Perfect for a ladys handbag too.

The minimalists choice.

I purchased mine in the BX stateside before Going overseas. While in Europe I used my Waiter knife nearly every day. The best was opening bottles of wine! Once you get the hang of it you can make quick work of that most joyous task. When I returned to the States about 5 years later it was just as tight as the day I left, if not a little worse for wear. That was about 27 years ago. I just sent it in to the first time for service at the repair center. Maybe I'll get another 27 years before it needs to be looked at again!

Years of service while stationed overseas

Posseggo questo coltellino da non so quanti anni. Le gualcente non hanno pinzette e stuzzicadenti e la croce è del vecchio tipo. Ha funzioni minime ma essenziali. Uso la lama, l'apribottiglie e il cavaturaccioli che utilizzo anche per allentare nodi. In tasca non ci si ricorda di averlo per la misura 84mm ed il peso irrisorio... tra i miei victorinox (explorer, pioneer x, compact, tinker small e classic) è quello che mi capita di portare di più.

Essenziale e leggerissimo

Es handelt sich zwar nur um das Einstiegsmodell, aber es ist leicht, solide verarbeitet, alles funktioniert  und die Klinge ist auch sehr scharf.

What this knife does it does very well, as a bottle opener it does a good job, the knife is standard victorinox fare, and the tweezers are more useful than you'd expect. Corkscrew is ok, leverage sucks of course so you need to get creative if you have an especially stubborn bottle of wine, but that's par for the course.
Only downside is how quickly you run into its limitations.
I bought this as an introduction to Swiss Army knives, and after two weeks got frustrated by not being able to unscrew a Philips head... That's not a long time.
I actually lost this knife the day before writing this, so I believe an upgrade is in order.
Good knife, just be sure it does everything you need

Great knife, but limited

Finally, after having to buy "The Waiter" in Europe, it is being marketed in the US. Bought my first Waiter in Europe about 20 years ago and soon lost it when back in the US. Looked everywhere for a replacement and none was to be found. I like this knife for many reasons - functionality, quality/durability, etc. But the main reason is its size. It fits well in jeans as well as dress slacks. It is not bulky or heavy. When in Germany last year I bought five of them. I kept one and gave four as gifts, that is how much I believe in it. If you are looking for a small, functional travel knife, look no further. Highly recommended.

Finally available in the US

I purchased the waiter, an excellent thin, civil, refined and compotent tool for carry and use in society, without causing any discomfort. It does all the duties of the spartan except the punch, which is not all day necessary. The tin opener function could be more refined but it does the job. I think it is the absolut alternative to the Victorinox all-rounders, sure another vic, the waiter)))

does the job of big brothers

I bought myself this knife in the Ecoline which comes in a beautiful dark matte red color.

This knife is the perfect balance between size and features available. This was one of my first knives, and it is still one of my favorite. It is truly an EDC (every day carry).

Great Minimal Knife

This is an excellent knife for most any occasion. It is a wine lovers' special being slim and lightweight. It also has a good sized and functional blade and basic screw driver for occasional use. It is also a bottle opener to use rather than scratching one's hand as many screw cap bottles are difficult to open.
