I have owned my Pioneer for over 15 years, and it is still going strong. I have fixed my car, snow blower, lawn mower and parts of my house with it! (windows, flower pot hangers, etc.) I have carved wood and made small fire sticks to get a campfire going.  There are too many things I have fixed or opened with this knife to list here!

C'est mon couteau du quotidien toujours dans ma poche. Quand je ne l'ai pas il me manque vraiment et en général c'est dans ces moments que j'en ai le plus besoin. Il a les fonctions nécessaires de base ce qui en fait un couteau plat. Sobre, élégant, il supporte d'être avec des clefs et autres objets abrasifs. Je le recommande comme couteau multifonctions tout terrain. Le poinçon remplace assez bien l'usage de la petite lame. Si je ne devais en apporter qu'un dans mes aventures ce serait celui-là pour son faible encombrement.

I got my mine they other day and WOW! The size, ergonomics, quality of materials  and weight was perfect. The blade and tools are awesome and pretty much everything you would use routinely every day. I had the EVO 18, much slimmer and didn’t use half the tools at all. 
If you are looking for Everyday Knife, this is your knife. The Pioneer X with the saw would be a bonus. 
If you are looking at taking out herds of zombies, vampires or werewolves this isn’t the knife.

I have and have had a lot of knives. But this one has been in my pocket every day for for almost forty years. It's a mini tool kit, and I have done auto repair, carpentry and cabinetry repair, electrical repair, first aid with it, a well as cutting string, spreading mustard, cutting sausage, shaving tinder, and everything else, saving me much time, effort, trouble, and expense in not having to go and get another tool. 

Two points, one important. It is not a lock-blade knife, and there are times that matters. Second, it is no weapon at all.

The world is full of fancy knives that do not work. This one works.  

I keep it in a soft sheath. That keeps it clean and saves my pockets.

La navaja perfecta para cuando no quieres cargar con una más grande, tiene las herramientas necesarias para el día a día. Elegante por el acabado en aluminio.

Útil y de buen tamaño

Ich kannte das Messer bereits aus meinem Militärdienst.
Es ist sehr robust und für den harten Gebrauch konzipiert. Das einzige was ich vermisse, ist wie bei allen Alox Messern die Pinzette. Ich trage das Messer immer mit einem sog. EDC mini Clip. So stört es in der Hosentasche nicht und kann nicht verloren gehen.

Ich habe mein altes Pioneer Alox leider verloren, deshalb kaufe ich mir jetzt ein neues. Ich finde die Optik einfach besser als bei den Plastikhüllen. Ausserdem ist es Auch robuster, wenn auch nicht zu robust, weil aus Aluminium. Es zerkratzt jedenfalls wenn die Hülle als Bieröffner benutzt wird, aber dafür wäre ja eigentlich der integrierte der Flaschenöffner vorgesehen. Ausserdem passt es perfekt in die Hosentasche, weil es nicht zu gross ist.

Ce couteau mythique a été pendant des décennies le couteau d'ordonnance du Soldat suisse. En acier spécial riveté, il est indestructible. La lame est tranchante comme un rasoir et les outils réellement utiles. Je l'ai eu eu auprès de moi pendant tout mon service militaire il y a vingt ans: je l'ai encore et il m'est toujours aussi utile !

My wife gave me the Pioneer as a wedding gift in 2003, and it has been in my pocket ever since. I use the tools all the time as well as the blade. I find the Alox models to be very durable. I use this daily to open letters, as a screw driver, to pull nails out of the wall, take out splinters and to open toy packages for my children. The blade and tools are strong and still look like new, as does the Alox outer scales. I work in an office but tinker at home and this has the perfect amount of tools for me!

This was my first Alox Swiss Army knife. Well, actually it's the very similar Soldier knife. Mine's a 2003. Only real difference is the shield design and lack of a keyring. It's a wonderful pocket knife. The main blade is very sturdy, even moreso than the Officer's knives. It cuts well, stays sharp and is easily sharpened. Mine usually just needs a strop to stay shaving sharp. The rest of the tools are very robust and practical. The opening tools can perform a very wide variety of tasks. The reamer tool is superb! What an excellent tool. Drills, scrapes, punches, scribes, planes, pokes, cleans, etc. If you have even half an imagination, you'll love the Pioneer, for both the outdoors and in day to day life. Its slim profile pocket carries nicely, and the silver Alox scales hide wear well. No scale tools to lose. Such a great Swiss Army knife. Highly recommended. If you can't live without a saw, however, the Farmer is basically the Pioneer with a saw.

Classic SD Alox

Das Messer ist hervorragend verarbeitet, die Klingen/Werkzeuge sind gut zu fassen und leicht auszuklappen. Im ausgeklappten Zustand sehr stabiler Halt. Hervorragende Verarbeitung und hervorragendes Materal.
Das Produkt kann ich uneingschränkt empfehlen.

Very well made. Just missing a corkscrew. Sturdy finishing makes it nearly undestructable. The reamer is extremely sharp, be careful.

Das Messer sieht echt edel aus. Jeder Sammler sollte sich dieser Modell kaufen. Die Farbe ist richtig gut gewählt worden.
Keine verbesserungsvorschläge für dieses Messer. 

Sammler würden durchdrehen wenn die Alox pioneer Serie (egal welche farbe) in gross zu kaufen wäre. Ich würde ein Alox bringen der etwa die länge und die breite von den grossen Messer hat. Etwa basierend auf ein Ranger Grip. Mit traditionellem Nagelverschluss natürlich. So dass dann vier grössen zu kaufen sind. Würde in meiner Vetrine sehr gut aussehen und ich glaube auch jeder anderer Sammler würde sich sofort eins kaufen.

Received this as a gift from a good friend who bought it in Switzerland. The knife feels great in your hand and fits perfectly in the top right corner pocket of my jeans. The scales help give that extra grip needed when your hands are wet or slippery. Most of all, The classic look it has makes this knife a new timeless classic.

Simplicity at it's best

Many fondly remember the pocket knife issued to the U.S. military until a few years back, and it's no longer made. No problem there. The Pioneer has all the same features, is more compact, and better than original quality. I bought it as an excellent outdoors knife. Just right for hiking, camping, or hunting; and good for every day carry.

Works good in featured 33247 pouch, but I opted for the simpler 33214 pouch for when I wanted belt carry.

Excellent modern "GI" utility knife

I've been using the single blade Pionner Alox for a while as my backup EDC folding knife.
It has served me well, but having a first-class "main" folding knife in my pocket, I'm missing additional tools like a bottle opener or a flat screwdriver in hand in some ocasions. Thus I decided so swap the single blade version with the classic and iconinc version of the Pioneer Alox, complete with its awl, can and bottle opener.
Both share the legendary sturdiness from Vic factory, although the edge shows fast wearing when faces heavy duty. It is easy to sharpen but easy to wear too, compared with premium steels like S35VN or ELMAX.
The awl is surprisingly well designed.
The single blade version has no key-ring which is perfect for me. The "standard" Pioneer has it though.
Sharpness can easly be improved from new at home using a good sharpening tool.

An iconic classic

I carry my old Pioneer (without keyring old swiss cross) daily. I love how it looks and it is a perfect tool. Enough in one knife to perform many tasks. Very sturdy too.

Klassiker

This knife is the best one i have from Victorinox. I have several bigger ones and smaller in size but al great in preformance. What makes this one so special? It is just right in size to do everything from peeling an apple to creating a fire. It has all essential tools and is stil easy to handle an smaal enough to have in your pocket all day without showing. It doesn't scare people when you take it out your pocket it is just a smal knife and legal to carry with you over here.
The alox scales give great grip even when wet or dirty. It stays sharp even when you abuse it. And if it gets dull it's easy to sharpen. I have the old model of this one it is called soldier and is missing the key-ring but i don't mis that. Overall this a great knife. Love It.

Great Knife.

I bought my SAK pioneer in switzerland in summer 2013. Since then i have had some kind of Swiss army knife on me, at all times. I use the knife every day and it has really saved the day many times. i really like the reamer tool on this knife, i mostly use it for opening packages and punching starter holes in drywall or Wood.

I you want only one Swiss army knife, you should consider this model. It is VERY sturdy and doesn´t show wear as much as the plastic ones. The knife blade and drivers is also slightly larger than the standard models, which makes it suitable for more demanding tasks.

Great knife for everybody!

I tried many Victorinox knives, but pioneer alox range are generally better built. Knife will come pretty sharp and remains for some time. It has better grip compared to plastic models, not perfect, but sufficient. I really recommend this knife for EDC and many other things.

No.1 pocket knife

I actually bought this knife in the victorinox visitor centre about a week ago. It came very sharp out of the box (still is) and was good value.
I really like the traditional reamer. The blade is thicker wider and longer than on the officers knife which combined with the alox scales make it much more rugged and durable

Strong sharp and simple

Knife has a very strong construction with excellent slip joints. Handle is a little slippery when wet but manageable. Steel has excellent rust resistant and the main blade came with good sharpness. Unfortunately after a dozen of apples and oranges peeled it went dull which is pretty fast. Haven't sharpen it yet. We'll see if sharpens easily.

Strong pocket knife for every day user

My father always had his (red but is worn in places because of use) in his briefcase and I remember using it often, so when I was 14 I wanted my own and we went to the local Victorinox store and I saw it was identical to his. I've used this in scouts, working on cables for jobs, and to do every day tasks. The blade is still sharp after 13 years of use/abuse. I like that it's a metal handle instead of the plastic molded ones, and has the textured sides for a better grip. I carry it with me every day, lost it in a buddies car in South Africa and when I got it back one of the blades was a little stiff to open, I'm not sure what happened to it but it still works.

Always carry it with me

Always there when I need it. The little peg is always handy to make holes and can be sharpened as well. The blade is made of stainless steel and is very versatile. This product is great for camping even though it doesn't have a little saw tool.The joints lock when you open it, making it safe to work with. The metal casing makes it extra durable and in the 25 years I've had mine it has never let me down and I still can't see a sign of rust or oxidation anywhere.

This product is compact and trustworthy.

I am a bench chemist and have carried the same Pioneer every day since 1986. It has been well used (and sometimes abused) in doing lab work, and has remained serviceable despite being used sometimes in pretty harsh conditions. It's easy to keep sharp plus it has the accessory blades that I most need. I wouldn't trade it if I couldn't get another.

I've been using Victornox Swiss Army Knives since I was five years old. I got the pioneer last week, and absolutely feel in love with its old school military style and feel. I just ordered two more, and am having them engraved as presents for my dad and fiance. I hope Victorinox never retires the pioneer!

A timeless classic!

I got this knife about four months ago. I love it! I carry it almost everywhere with me. I can even light a match off the handles! Great!

Not too much, not too little.

I own a drawer full of SAK's, and this is the one that I carry every single day. It's strong enough to do what I want, and slim enough that it is comfy to carry in my pocket.

Très beau couteau, la mécanique est franche et le blocage vif comme toutes les lames Victorinox, c'est le plus beau et le plus fiable des mécanisme que l'on puisse retrouver sur un couteau pliant ! Le petit reproche serait la finition de la plaquette Alox, sur sa surface latérale, on y voit la trace de découpe qui est mal polie. Mais je chipotte, pour ce prix et cette qualité, on ne peut réellement lui reprocher d'être usiné.

If i had to choose just one Victorinox knife i would choose this.This knife have all basic functions that i need.It´s very sturdy for such lightweigt knife.I think it lasts a lifetime in normal use.Alox handle looks beautiful and gives good grip.Big flathead srewdriver can take a lot of torque without getting loose or break.Still keep in mind it isn´t ment use as a pryingbar.Blade is very sharp like all Victorinox blades.Reamer in this knife is very sharp and effective.-This knife is perfect Gentleman`s EDC knife.

you never know when your gonna need a knife. I also keep it on me. it's not so big but also gets the job done.

with me every day

I have used this knife for years to split tube cane for sax and clarinet reeds and then rough shape the blanks. I had other tools I would use to make the blank into a semi-finished blank. However, I have found this knife does a wonderful job in making the rough reed blank into a semi-finished blank. It has good heft and sharpness. It also has good mass for scraping the profile of the reed with minimum chatter. It cuts my time in half and does the job better. This is the best knife I have found to take raw tube cane all the way to semi-finished reed blanks, and I will now experiment in taking the reed blanks to the next stage of a semi-finished reed. This is a GREAT tool!
I saw my first one in 1964 when a Swiss friend had one and I admired it. Years later I saw some in a store and bought two. Little did I realize what an important tool this would be for me as a doubling musician. I will try some others in this group of knives.
I will be requiring this tool for my students from now on.
