Age restrictions

Ensuring age-restricted items arrive in the right hands

In May 2019, the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (the 'OWA') was passed into UK law. This piece of legislation has the aim of restricting the sale of knives and corrosive substances, especially to under-18s, in response to an increase in serious crimes involving knives and ‘acid attacks’.

Some provisions of the OWA - which came into force on 6th April 2022 – apply to the way in which retailers are able to sell certain bladed products online and deliver these items to their customers. As a result, Victorinox is required to:

  • Verify at the point of sale that the customer seeking to purchase a bladed product is not under 18; and

  • Take steps to ensure these products are not delivered into the hands of someone under the age of 18.

How our age verification works

We use an age verification partner GB Group to undertake certain checks to confirm your age. If your order contains age-restricted products, we are obliged by law to verify that you are over the age of 18. This verification uses publicly available sources www.gov.uk/electoral-register and www.192.com/people/electoral-roll.

If your information is publicly available and can be used to confirm you are over 18, you will be able to place your order and you will receive an order confirmation email once the order has been accepted.

If the publicly-available information is only partially able to confirm your identity and/or age, you will be able to place your order but will receive an email from us with instructions on how to provide additional proof of identity (for example, you may be asked to provide a photograph of your passport or ID card).

Tips to ensure a successful age verification:

  •  Please ensure you enter your full name as per your birth certificate/passport, any abbreviations or shortened names will not work.

  •  You need to use your electoral roll address that you are registered to.

Deliveries (checks by DHL)

We will ship your order via DHL Express Verified Delivery Service. Please note that orders containing age-restricted products will require additional ID verification at the point of delivery. Please be ready to provide identification to the courier (for example, your passport, driving license or other valid ID card) to confirm that you are the same person who placed the order.

As you will need to verify that you are the same person who placed the order, you will need to be at the shipping address at the time of delivery. If you are not at the shipping address at the time of delivery, DHL will contact you to arrange another time slot for delivery. If DHL is still unable to deliver the item and you are not able to be contacted, the item will be returned to the warehouse as 'undeliverable', at which point your order will be refunded in full.

As you will need to verify you are the same person who placed the order, unfortunately DHL is unable to leave age-restricted items with another member of your household, or with a neighbour. DHL are also unable to deliver the item to a collection point or to a locker.

Please note that if you request delivery to an alternative address, you must be present at the alternative address at the time of delivery in order to provide proof of identification.
