All the same functions as the Camillus US military folding knife, very slightly smaller, with the excellent addition of the wood saw. I have two of the Camillus and only added this for the wood saw. I've looked at several YouTubes praising this Farmer, singling out the wood saw, which is a sturdy and sharp toothed blade, but my surprise was that the wood saw has NO thumbnail groove for opening it up when all the other blades are closed. (One video warned about the folders in general NOT to open blades at both ends simultaneously because doing so damages the spring.) So with the other blades closed, the wood saw remains flush and not grippable. The only way to open it was by the very slightly protruding TIP of the saw.  I had to use some other tool or whatever edge to pry open the wood saw.

Ножом пользуюсь уже больше 2 лет, он всегда со мной, на работе, на отдыхе в городе и в лесу. Выручает в разных ситуациях. Крепкий средней длины клинок с достаточно толстым обухом. Всем рекомендую надёжный нож.

Habe mir für die Bergtouren dieses Farmer Alox gegönnt.  Die Qualität von Klinge, Säge, Dosenöffner sind - wie bekannt - excellent. Allerdings: Die Nutzung der Werkzeuge bereitet durch die besondere Haptik der Griffschale außerordentliche Freude. Außerdem empfinde ich die das wertige Aloxdesign als edel.

Klassiker mit besonderem haptischem Genuß

With bigger blade than the 91mm celidor models and stronger springs you have a very good blade that is still legal everywhere, a saw that is slightly smaller than in the new soldier knife, the can opener is also a Philips screwdriver (for who doesn't know) and the flat screwdriver is beefier than the original celidor models, the owl is just perfect and it works as a back up blade if you need to do some hard job. I added to mine a small pocket clip and it never leaves my pocket when I go outdoors. if you want THE perfect companion for camping, traveling and hiking this is the one.

The original Swiss army knife

The Farmer was the very first Victorinox Swiss Army Knife I owned. Purchased over 40 years ago, it was my daily carry for over 25 years until I lost it. I could never find this model again in any store for. Multiple clerks checked their catalogs and assured me it was "discontinued." Then I recently found swissarmy.com, and I was overjoyed to find the Farmer is still available!

Other reviewers have said it, but it bears repeating... the Farmer has the IDEAL mix of blades and tools. The main blade is perfect for utility applications, The tip of the can opener blade turns most philips screw heads in a pinch (it opens cans effectively too!). The screwdriver blade makes a beefy pry bar, and the punch makes a great awl. Finally, the saw blade is what really makes this knife complete. It will literally cut through a 2x4 in less than a minute. I've sorely missed the saw blade on later knives I've owned. 

In additional to all these great features, this knife is practically indestructable. I'm overjoyed to get my trusty old Farmer back! Hands down, this is the best Swiss Army Knife model EVER.

Best Victorinox Knife Ever

A great feature set, my first choice in the alox range. I thought the removal of the corkscrew etc from the back of the knife would make for a very comfortable knife - however the keyring is not in its usual place, at the end of the handle and has been shifted around to the back, causing it to dig into the palm of my hand, which is very painful. It makes me wonder if anyone tried or tested this knife? I will be taking a file to my knife to remove the offending item - I should not have to do that. If the keyring was moved either back toward the end of the knife or even right the way round to the front side, it would no longer make contact with the palm of the hand.

great feature set - but the key ring is painful

This is my new favourite EDC. I have many different Victorinox Swiss Army knives, but this is now my go to. Everything I need, and nothing I don't. I was carrying an Alox Soldier knife from 2003, but I wanted the saw, like I have on my trusty Huntsman. The blade is the perfect size for food prep, carving tasks, and whatever else a pocket knife will be used for. The opening tools are great, as always, not only allowing access to cans and bottles, but for turning various types of screws, stripping and bending wire, light prying, scraping, ect. The saw is a hungry beast, devouring its way through wood and other soft materials, like plastic, drywall, etc. The icing on the cake is Victorinox's excellent reamer tool found on this, and some other Alox tools. It drills and reams even easier and better than the backside reamer on the Officer's knives, and I have even found it can replace the toothpick and tweezers found in Cellidor models! Can scrape out slivers and stingers, can be used as a rudimentary secondary blade, can scribe, make holes, dig and clean crevices, plane carving projects, etc. All in all, the Farmer is an amazing Swiss Army knife. If you want a rugged, basic and useful pocketknife, you can't go wrong with this one.

Here is all you need to know about the Alox Farmer. Big single blade slightly thicker than on the red-handle Cellidor modells. Saw and Can Opener, identical to Cellidor modells. Bottle Opener thicker than on Cellidor modells. Awl basicly doubles as a heavy-duty blade. Awl very practicaly placed. Alox scales gives better grip than Cellidor but can´t be replaced, with out expert help. Has a nice engraving "box" on one side. Recommended for handymen, children over the age of 11, senior citizens who might lose small objects such as toothpick etc, survivalists, military personel, hunters, anyone who wants a more heavy-duty knife. Non lockable blade, makes it legal in most countries. Make sure to add a ferrorod fire starter, mini LED-flashlight and a small metall whistle to the key-chain. With this knife you can prune your apple tree´s, cut some sticks for your campfire, cut a walking stick (if you sprain your ankle) and make a small overnight shelter.

"Victorinox Swiss Made right?" This is the of course the most probable positive answer to someone asking about swiss knives. Surely it needs no introduction. And with the Alox ones it makes a fabulous combination. Well sadly this 'was' my favourite before Victorinox launched 'Pioneer X'. Just bought it before the birth of its younger sibling. 
Though there is a catch. It has the woodsaw that comes quite handy when it comes to bushcrafting and camping.

Top class Alox

Great trail knife, or for the handyman. Heay duty blades and tools won't let you down. If I'm doing any diy projects, this knife is always nearby. For camping, its better than anything else I carry. It is a little bit big for in town carry. For that I'll use my cadet or sportsman. For fix it situations or bushwacking,it's with me.

Very functional

I love this knife. I own many different knives that cover a multitude of uses in terms of what a knife would be used for. This knife, however, rides with me more places than any other. It is the perfect size for the tasks that a pocket knife would be used for and the tools it does have are all essential without adding too much. I love the simplicity of this knife. With the Alox handles it is both grippy to hold onto and it feels more structurally sound. The saw on this thing can accomplish way more than you think it should be able to. The reamer is also very useful and has many uses. The can opener and bottle opener work well and they have the extra features of having the flathead screwdrivers and a wire stripper to boot. This knife quickly became one of my favorites and replaced my main carry knives, even the ones that cost much more. You can not go wrong with this selection if you want a knife that can go everywhere with you.

Best EDC Knife

This is a great knife for everyday carry and will cause no problems with the police, certainly in the UK. It's well designed, well constructed & plenty strong for its intended purpose, i.e. urban or light-field tasks. At 85g it's not a burden. There aren't many tools but this has the essentials and the only other thing I'd like is a phillips-head screw driver. I don't value the scissors or corkscrew and I don't miss them not being present.

Overall, this is a very pleasing item both to use, and to own. It would be even better with a pocket clip but with a split-ring, mini-carabiner and piece of cord you can suspend it from your belt and that works fine. Highly recommended.

Highly Desirable Pocket Knife

This is the best pocket outdoor knife i ever had.
I used to take the Hiker with me for outdoor use until i got this one for my birthday in summer and it was the best gift ever.
The saw and the blade are bigger than on the Hiker, but this knife is still UK carry legal.
The springs and tools are very strong and the whole knife is way more durable than knives with plastic scales.
Since there is no toothpick or tweezers on it i also carry an SD Classic on my keys to compensate for it.
The woodsaw does a great cutting job and so does the blade and the blade is thicker, bit bigger, taller and stronger than on standard 91mm range knives.
I use the keyring for a lanyard that i attach to my belt loop so i don't loose the knife.
Reamer is great for drilling holes in wood, flat screwdriver can do some bigger prying jobs and the can opener does a fantastic job too.
This is not just a pocket knife, it really can do a lot even as an emergency survival knife!

If i would get lost in woods with only this knife in my pocket, i am certain it would save my life.
This knife feels indestructible, can really survive falls and it doesn't need much maintenance, its just a bit heavier than the Hiker or Camper knives, but still very compact.
Price is very affordable and you really get a knife that is a top quality Swiss craftsmanship with excellent functionality not just for outdoors, this is a very good EDC too.

Pocket survival knife

The Farmer is hands down, one of the best Victorinox Swiss Army Knifes, I've had.
This is the first Alox knife in my SAK (short for: Swiss Army Knife) collection. Every Victorinox SAK feels very durable, but this takes quality and durability to a whole new level! It seems simply indestructible (with normal everyday use). The pattern on the handle gives the SAK a unique feeling opposed to the plastic grips/handles. If you take proper care of this knife it will last a lifetime. The only things I miss are the toothpick and the tweezers - but I would trade them for the Alox handles any day.

Extraordinary Swiss Army Knife

Un beau et bon couteau. Look élégant avec ses plaquettes en aluminium quadrillées. La lame et la scie seront très utiles au randonneur comme au bricoleur. Le poinçon viendra à bout des emballages Cellophanes des CD et des DVD avec aisance!

Si je ne devais en garder qu'un sur toute ma collection, ce serait celui-ci.
Compacte (mais ce qui lui donne une prise en main un peu moins bonne que les nouveaux SAK), une lame sans défauts, les outils les plus utiles, et surtout une scie super efficace. Je travail souvent le bois, et cette petite scie se faufile dans tous les coins et reste tranchante, même si je lui ai fait avaler pas mal de planches d’aggloméré...le pire pour une lame !
Je n'ai qu'un regret, je ne trouve pas de Farmer en couleur orange...
