Avis court : 
C'est mon premier Alox, je ne suis pas déçu.
La lame est plus grande que sur un 91mm, le grip Alox est une belle découverte. Le couteau dépasse les 100gr mais il est très bien équilibré et tient bien en main.
Peut-être un peu lourd pour un fond de poche, mais l'étui 4.0543 lui va comme un gant (à conditions de mettre le couteau dans le bon sens).
Ses principaux concurrents sont : 
- le Pioneer X (le même sans la scie, un peu plus léger, disponible en édition limitée)
- le Huntsman (pour le couple scie à bois / ciseaux)

Avis long : 
Ce n'est pas mon premier couteau Suisse, je peux donc comparer cet Alox au Hunstman, au Forester ou au Rambler (clairement on ne peut pas comparer un Alox à un 58mm, quoique).

Le Farmer X est à mon sens le plus complet des Alox.
Impressionnant de robustesse, il dégage quelque chose de sûr. 
S'il apparaît lourd au premier touché, c'est surtout une impression, peut-être du à la finition Alox : 109gr (contre 97gr pour le Hunstman).
Par contre, plus je l'ai manipulé et moins j'ai eu cette impression de poids. Clairement le couteau est très bien équilibré.

Si par contre le poids reste un facteur déterminant pour vous, je pense que le Pioneer X est fait pour vous : vous ferez l'impasse sur la scie à bois mais vous serait à 94gr pour 15mm de haut contre les 109gr et 17mm du Farmer X).
Pioneer X qui fait partie des Alox qui reçoivent une couleur spécial chaque année en édition limité. Cela peut-être un plus.

Pour en revenir au Hunstman (qui avec la scie à bois et les ciseaux est selon moi son équivalent en Cellidor) j'ai envie de dire que se sont 2 philosophies différentes : 
Le Farmer X possède en moins : 
- le tire bouchon
- le crochet
- le poinçon passe-poil
- la petite lame
- les pincettes
- le cure-dents
Mais il possède en plus : 
- La finition Alox
- Une plus grande lame
- Un plus grand décapsuleur - tournevis (plus grand que le Huntsman, plus petit que le Forester)
- Un poinçon plus grand (sans passe-poil) mais il est impressionnant par sa taille et son emplacement. On a plus de force pour l'utiliser (mais je n'aimerais pas riper avec. La position "tire bouchon" est plus sécurisante.
Mais je me vois faire avec ce que je fais avec la petite lame du Huntsman (ouverture de colis par exemple).

Autre différence notable entre le Farmer X (et les Alox en général) par rapport au Huntsman (et les autres Cellidor) : 
- La scie s'ouvre dans le même sens que la grande lame. La conséquence est qu'elle n'est pas du côté de l'anneau, ce qui peut avoir son avantage.
- Le cran d'ouverture des ciseaux n'est pas du même côté. Là j'avoue que je n'ai pas compris pourquoi. Sur un cellidor, quand vous êtes face à la Cross & Shield, vous retourner le couteau (côté verso) pour ouvrir les ciseaux. Sur un Alox, vous faîtes basculer le couteau la tête en bas pour y avoir accès (ou vous y avez directement accès de la main gauche).
Cela m'a fait bizarre de devoir chercher les ciseaux la première fois. Il y a sûrement une raison technique ou historique que je serais curieux de connaître. 

Pour en revenir à ce que le Farmer X a en moins : si le tire-bouchon et le crochet vous est indispensable : clairement vous n'allez pas vous tourner vers la gamme Alox pour votre couteau de taille moyenne.
Si c'est la petite lame, vous avez d'autres modèles Alox (tel que l'Army 7) qui ont la serpette, mais ils n'auront pas les ciseaux.
Je trouve que le poinçon du Farmer X est un bon compromis.

Autre possibilité pour palier l'absence de la petite lame, ainsi que le manque des pincettes et du cure-dent : un 58mm !
Et c'est là que je ressors mon Rambler (à vous de faire votre choix) qui est un excellent compagnon (il comble déjà le manque de ciseaux de mon Forester).

J'ai hésité pour mon premier Alox : un Bantam, un Swiss Army 7,  un Pioneer X, un Farmer X...

C'est au final le Farmer X qui l'a emporté, avec son étui 4.0549.
Le couteau est magnifique en soi, c'est une bel alternative au Huntsman. Autant quand vous sortez un Cellidor rouge, les personnes autour de vous pensent tout de suite "Couteau Suisse", autant vous faites sensation avec un Alox. En plus d'avoir un revêtement solide et qui offre un bon grip.
Et si vous avez de grandes mains, je pense que vous serais mieux avec lui qu'avec un couteau plus fin.
Bref, si vous souhaitez un Alox, je pense que votre plus grand dilemme sera de choisir entre le Pioneer X ou le Farmer X.

Mon premier Alox, impressionnant

This is my 1st Alox knife and I think I picked up the best one, especially now that I have it in my hands. It's the same thickness of the 3 layer Regular Victorinox knives, but slightly heavier and more durable. Each tool looks to be thicker besides the scissors, which are perfect being the same. I love the feeling of the tool in my hand. It's kinda colder to the touch but it's aluminum, so I was expecting that. The only thing this is missing from this being the perfect toolset for me is a file, but it would be a thicker tool and this is the biggest size I would want in my pocket. The Awl is probably the best Awl I ever tried, especially since it's so easy to pull out. I can definitely see why it gets so many good reviews. I am so glad that this is my 1st Alox. This is definitely a amazing tool to have in your pocket.

I am extremely pleased with the Farmer X Alox tools and capability. It certainly lives up to all the reviews relating to its robustness and capability. The saw and the scissors in particular are amazing. 
My only slight complaint, which stops it getting 5 stars, is the finish on the very edges of the alox scales. It appears that they have not been polished as well as they could have been, just on the very edges of the scales.  Also, on delivery the spine of the tool had slight staining, like rust. As if it had been stored somewhere damp. I was able to polish this away with some metal polish though, otherwise I would have been returning it.
It is a shame that this slight attention to detail spoiled the overall experience of what is a wonderfully capable item. I am used to excellent quality from Victorinox, and thankfully everything else was up to usual standards.

In der Rekrutenschule im Jahr 1980, fasste ich das damals übliche "Soldatenmesser 61", mit Alox-Griff. Diese Messer wurden entweder von Wenger, oder Victorinox produziert. Aus nicht geklärten Gründen ist dieses Messer, nicht mehr auffindbar. Als Ersatz kaufte ich mir vor bald 4 Jahren, ein "Victorinox- Pioneer", das ziemlich gleich wie das "Soldatenmesser 61" aufgebaut ist. Dieses Alox-Messer ergänzte ich noch durch die Modelle "Farmer," "Army7", "Cadet" und "Classic Alox". Als das "Victorinox FarmerX" auf dem Markt kam, hab ich lange gezögert, dieses Messer zu kaufen. Da mir jedoch ein Alox-Messer normaler Grösse mit Schere fehlte, griff ich zu. Nebst den 111-er Modellen sind die die Alox-Modelle die solidesten Victorinox-Messer. Da 93er Alox-Modelle richtige Allround-Messer sind, vermisse ich die feststellbaren Klingen. Sollte Victorinox die Idee haben solche Varianten anzubieten, wüsste ich bereits einen Abnehmer.

Robustes Allround-Messer

Das Farmer X Alox gehört zu den Messern der Alox Serie, die eine stärkere Klinge haben als die anderen mittelgroßen Victorinox Taschenmesser. Das ist schon mal klasse. Auch sonst überzeugt es auf ganzer Linie: Alles in solider Qualität dabei. 
Die Ahle ist anders ausgeführt als üblich, arbeitet aber genauso gut oder noch besser, vor allem, weil sie nicht in der Mitte sitzt und so besser zum Bohren eingesetzt werden kann (man kann leichter Kraft darauf bringen). Außerdem lässt sie sich konstruktionsbedingt leichter aufklappen. Eine Öse hat sich allerdings nicht (wie bspw. das Huntsman), so dass sie nicht ganz so vielseitig ist. Säge, Schere, Kapselheber und Dosenöffner sind in gewohnt guter Qualität ausgeführt. 
Mir fehlt zwar der Korkenzieher etwas, aber dafür ist der Rücken des Farmer X Alox schön glatt. Das Messer hat ein angenehmes, fertiges Gewicht und sieht fantastisch aus. Die Alu-Schalen sind sicher ein Plus, weil haltbarer und unempfindlicher als die üblichen Kunststoffschalen. 
Ein fast perfektes ECD mit einer super Optik und den wichtigsten Funktionen.

The Farmer X has enough tools to tackle important jobs out in the wilds without being too huge to keep in your pocket. I usually carry the little SAK Walker, the FarmerX is a lot bigger but still what I would call a nice size pocket knife. Mine came sharp, no loose tools or blade and will no doubt take wear and tear in its stride for years and years. Like others have said, it's a pity the toothpick and tweezers can not be incorporated into the design.

Survival tool.

J ai plusieurs couteau victorinox.  Allant du modèle 1908 à aujourd'hui.  Les couteaux victorinox ont chacun leur utilité. Ils sont fait pour durer, de génération en génération.  C est simplement un indispensable au quotidien.

Simplement extraordinaire et indispensable, rien de plus

Très bon canif "Alox" qui ressemble au canif militaire suisse Alox Armée 68 que j'avais reçu à l'époque il y a fort longtemps.
Contrairement à l'ancien modèle de l'armée suisse Alox Armée 68, ce modèle a en supplément la scie à bois et les ciseaux.
Certes, de nombreux modèles Alox ressemblent au modèle Alox Armée 68, toutefois, la qualité reste solide, impeccable et de bonne facture.
Le conception du canif Farmer X Alox semble simple et basique, cependant, le concept est pratique et robuste, au même titre que les produits Alox, même si de nombreux canifs Victorinox sont également très biens.
Ce canif est relativement petit afin de tenir dans une poche de pantalon ou de blue-jeans.
Il y a toujours le bémol concernant les ciseaux dont le système de fermeture-ouverture se casse beaucoup trop facilement et est relativement peu solide... la conception même des ciseaux mériterait une sérieuse amélioration ou carrément un système différent...

Très bon produit de type Alox

I’ve been buying and using Victorinox Swiss Army Knives for 35 years. I purchased the Farmer X Alox a few months ago and it’s by far the best one yet. The grip, comfort, and durability of the Alox handles is superior to Celidor in every way possible. Getting both the scissors and saw together was very important to me since they’re the two tools I use the most next to the main blade. And the main blade of the Farmer X is larger and stronger than on the 91 mm models. The weight and hand feel are both quite pleasantly hefty. This Farmer X knife is the best everyday carry I could have hoped for. Best of all I managed to buy one from a site that had it for 24% off for some reason, not that I wouldn’t have bought it anyway. Highly recommended. Just buy one already if you’re on the fence. You won’t be disappointed.

Best SAK ever

Received this in it's box and in perfect condition. It feels a little more 'weighty' than the Cellidor (plastic resin) scaled knives and more 'quality', although fundamentally the same components, apart from the Alox's aluminium scales.
Pity the toothpick and tweezers can't be accommodated in the Alox range, but other than that, just a lovely feeling knife in the hand.
Just.... Quality... y'know?

Quality feel

This is an excellent knife as most Victorinox knives are (I have a few).
The addition of scissors to an already useful knife is the icing on the cake for me. The scissors are always useful and very sharp. 
there isn't an aspect of this knife that I do not like.

Everything I need !

I just got my Swiss Farmer X! I was taken by its choices of tools it has on it. I also have a few other Victorinox Swiss Army Knives and Multi Tool's in my other bags and pack and they all play an important of my everyday carry. This is going to make a great asset to my EDC gear.

I call this my "dress knife'. It's simply beautiful. It's surprisingly heavy but still feels good in the pocket. Has enough tools that it can go to dinner with you and it's a good size and elegant enough that you won't freak out the table if you pull it out.

A great EDC

Das Farmer X ist für mich eines der besten EDC Messer überhaupt. Es ist super verarbeitet, hat in meinen Augen alles was man für draussen braucht dabei und ist sehr solide. Ich würde es nicht mehr hergeben. Und die silbrigen Schalen erinnern mich an meine Militärzeit, einfach schlicht und zeitlos, absolut top.

Tout fonctionne très bien et le design est très beau. Pour qu’il soit parfait il faudrait y ajouter un tire-bouchon. 
Je suis très content de l’avoir dans ma poche.

Beau et bien fini

I love this knife, for its strong and robust design,it feels fantastic in my hand, and i want to be able to use it to appreciate it even more with out worring about damaging its beautiful scale.
So i wonder if you would consider  replacing the brass pivots with counter sunk Allen key screws so i can replace damaged scales, or change the ALOX scales with some coloured versions.
Even if i couln,nt change the scales for a different coloured ALOX scale , i would like to use the knife more than i do already without worrying about damaging the silver ALOX scales that it came with.

Hier hat sich ein weiterer Kreis geschlossen.
Musste man sich sonst zwischen dem neueren Pioneer X oder einem Farmer als EDC für unterwegs entscheiden (je nachdem ob man im urbanen oder Outdoor Bereich unterwegs war), benötigt man zukünftig nur noch dieses eine Modell.
Wie alle Alox ist es sehr robust, vielseitig einsetzbar, trägt nicht so dick auf und verfügt dennoch über 4 Lagen. Dieses Modell hatte man echt vermisst!

Das Huntsman unter den Alox-Modellen

I ordered this knife as soon as I saw it.  Unfortunately, the rivets must have been loose, because the scissors, bottle opener, and blade all had side-to-side play.  I exchanged it, only to get a second with the scissors and bottle opener still loose.  The third one only has the bottle opener loose.  Play in a Victorinox is mostly unheard of, unless the knife has years of abuse on it.  To receive three brand new knives - Alox models, at that - with loose tools is unexpected and disappointing.

What has happened to quality control?

I've carried a Huntsman in my pocket for 30 years or so now, it has a mixture of blades and tools that I found particularly suited me - but I really liked the Alox scales, and that combination wasn't available. Enter the Farmer - no corkscrew, indeed nothing on the underside of the knife, and the small blade is replaced with a sort of edged awl, but actually I've found that tool very useful and I don't miss the corkscrew. Overall I'm very happy with this knife, how it feels in the hand and how it performs.

This pocket knife is fantastic!
It has the main three features (blade, scissors, saw) in a fairly compact form and there's not a single unused tool unlike some SAKs. 
The Alox scales make it really sturdy and durable while keeping the width down to mean it's still perfectly pocketable. The 93mm length helps as well with the longer and thicker blade.
I do miss the small tools (tweezers, toothpick, pen...) of my Compact but it's not too much of a compromise.

Overall this is a brilliant SAK and ideal as an EDC tool.

Lange von mir erwartet und einfach super: Säge und Schere endlich vereint in einem Victorinox-Messer mit Alox-Schalen ! Es fehlt beim Farmer X Alox jetzt eigentlich wirklich nur noch der Korkenzieher, um in Sachen Verwendung von nachhaltigerem Schalenmaterial dem Huntsman Wood echte Konkurrenz zu machen. Einziger Wermutstropfen: die Schere bzw. deren Nagelhau befindet sich - verglichen mit dem Huntsman - an der für mich, einen langjährigen SAK-User, intuitiv immer noch "falschen" Stelle. Leider wurde die Gelegenheit dieses, mir bereits bei der Handhabung des Pioneer X aufgefallene Manko, im Kontext des Release des Farmer X Alox zu beheben, ingenieurtechnisch verpasst. Sonst ist dieses Messer aber die von Victorinox gewohnte robuste und zuverlässige Qualitätsanfertigung, mit der ich stets bestens bedient wurde und die, abgesehen von obigem Wermutstropfen, stets bestens bedienbar war und ist.

Mehr, als erwartet - weniger, als erhofft

Un petit bijou...

A perfect blend of the most useful tools, combined in a pocket knife which isn't too big, wide or heavy - Although the blade, and I believe the saw, are slightly longer than those found in other Swiss Army Knives, which is actually a bonus. The blade is certainly of a thicker gauge.

All in all, the Farmer Alox X is perfect for my Scout activities where a more substantial knife is not required and, being UK legal for EDC, it accompanies me around my allotment and just about everywhere.

Another feature I really like in this model, is the sharp awl. It doesn't have a sewing eye, but it's perfectly placed at the end of the knife to drill holes and strike ferro rods without closing. And, if you like, you can use the awl either fully open or half-open at 90 degrees, as it has a stop built into the blade. 

A genuinely useful knife that's well made, as expected from the people at Victorinox. Thanks.

I have owned the Farmer for a few years and have love for it, but miss having scissors.
The Farmer X does fill that bill nicely, but at the cost, of course, of adding another layer to the knife, making it my largest SAK yet. My use for this knife will be for camping, so it'll probably ride on a carabiner on my belt loop, or along side my wallet in my back pocket. I think the larger size will be a plus in the woods, while in town my edc is a Sportsman SAK, about 1/2 the size and weight of the Farmer X.
 Quality, fit and finish are exceptional on these knives,  and the Farmer X, is magnificent. 
Super Tinker, Camper, Sportsman, Cadet, Rambler, Classic, Farmer, Farmer X, and counting. Love these knives!

Robust

The farmer x is a model I've have been hoping Victorinox would make for a long time. Now it is here I'm certainly not disappointed. I've been collecting victorinox tools for many years and using them daily for my job and the farmer x suits my needs perfectly. The tools as usual are robust and beautifully made and it still fits nicely in the pocket. I wonder perhaps if the Alox range could be expanded to include more models I'm certain they would be extremely popular. Keep up the good Victorinox and stick to your values.

Perfect companion

In my humble opinion, the Farmer X Alox might be the absolute best SAK ever made. For me personally, the SAK I carry must have a scissors. Having a functional saw was a big bonus. The awl and multi-tools are superb. The combination of all the tools in the Farmer X, plus the Alox scales, makes this a really functional and beautiful knife to own. This is meant for EDC as well as for collectors. I highly recommend this knife, and so far have no complaints whatsoever.
